Practice Log
Warm Up - 20 minutes (Spend at least 20 minutes playing very slowly a few of the scale pattern exercizes you know. Use a metronome and gradually increase the tempo to moderate levels (not fast) as your hands adapt to the instrument.)
Chord Study (Rhythm and Accompaniment) - 30 minutes (Practice chord moves and strumming patterns. Pay close attention to right hand and left hand technique and position. Listen to what you play. The time and feel shouldn't be effected when changing chords.)
Single String Technique - 30 minutes (Practice scales and scale studies very slowly and gradually increase the tempo. Play only as fast as you can play perfectly then, increase the tempo by 2 or 3 beats per minute. By practicing perfectly, you will play perfectly)
Reading - 30 minutes (Learn to read music, period.)
Improvisation - 30 minutes (Apply scale pattern to chords. Either record them or play with a friend. Work secifically on concepts which are new or difficult. Single string studies are the tools used to build effective solos)
Theory - open study (Music theory is the study of notational relationships and how notes interact with chords. Like reading, it is essential to learning to play well. Learn to understand how music works.)
