Practice Exercises for Building Finger Strength & Independence
|
The next pentatonic scale exercise uses a technique called sequencing. Sequencing is
the arrangement of scale tones in groups. This exercise uses 4 note sequences. Each
sequence of four notes is played from consecutive scale tones.
Play along with the animated illustration below until you become familiar with the pattern
of notes. Once you have mastered the exercise with the example, use your
metronome to
practice, gradually increasing the tempo as your skill progresses.

Next, practice the scale sequence descending from the first string. Both ascending and
descending scale sequences provide valuable tools to help build interesting solos.
