Pickguards
A pickguard only has to perform a few functions. Technically, its job is to protect the guitar's finish, but in reality, its function is mostly to hold the pickups and electronics in place. A wired pickguard is called a harness. There are a few considerations to consider, but mostly a pickguard decision is cosmetic.
It is important that the guitar's pickguard fits properly. If it doesn't, the pickguard will buckle and make it difficult to adjust the pickups. Also, in dry climates, some pearl pickguards build up static which discharges and makes popping noises through the amp. Other than that, choose one that looks good and fits the guitar.
